Families Step Up is an eight week program designed to help families with children between the ages of 8- 12 with weight concerns learn to become healthier as a family. The focus is on play, eating healthier, communication and being together as a family. The program takes a multidisciplinary, multi-dimensional approach engages the whole family to be as healthy as they can be.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the development of a childhood obesity program
  • Learn about how a multidisciplinary program is a successful approach to the childhood obesity problem
  • Why the whole family must participate to improve the health of the child.

About the Presenters

Leah Holzwarth
Leah Holzwarth, Director, Wellness Advantage and Employee Fitness, has worked for Baptist Health for nine years developing fitness, health promotion, health education programs. She has over 20 years experience working with hospital and community wellness programs. Ms. Holzwarth holds a masters degree in exercise science from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and is a certified Health and Fitness Specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine as well as a Certified Worksite Program Manager through the Chapman Institute. She has presented at numerous conferences and was part of a sports medicine team to Vietnam that looked at the health and wellness needs of a developing nation.
